Children @ St. John’s

We offer a wide range of activities for children aged 10 and under at St John’s Church and at our sister church, St Michael’s, Lilleshall. These include groups during the Sunday services, midweek Tiny Tots and special activities throughout the year. You are very welcome to join any of the groups. Sunday Morning

1st, 3rd, 4th & 5th Sundays:

During the Sunday service there are 2 children’s groups for different ages:

LIGHT

“Learning In God’s House Together”(for babies to 4 years)

A range of structured play activities are provided for the children, where they can begin to learn about the bible through play.

The sessions include story time and songs. Parents can stay with their young child if they wish to.

SAS

Special Agents on Sunday’(children from 5 – 10 years, school years R – 5)

The sessions teach children about the basic elements of being a Christian through fun activities and crafts, whilst also developing a sense of belonging in the group. Children learn about the bible and how to apply this to their everyday lives. They will also learn about prayer and worship.

During the Week

Tiny Tots

Tuesday mornings in term time

St John’s Tiny Tots hold a morning session every Tuesday during term time. The group is for carers/parents and babies and toddlers up to school age. We have free play, craft session, singing time and refreshments. We have trips, parties, photographer and occasionally visiting stalls. Our craft is based around a biblical theme eg Noah’s Ark, God loves me, Feeding of the 5,000.

Special Events During the Year

We often put on extra parties and events for children during the year. These have included; Bright Lights alternative Halloween party, Film afternoons, Craft workshops and of course our summer holiday activity days. See the special events calendar for dates of upcoming activities.

Activity Days – on the first week of the School Summer holidays. 3 days of fun for children aged 5 – 11. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Crafts, sports, singing, dancing, creativity and lots of fun with a bible story based theme. Themes for the last few years  have been ‘Special Agents’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and this year will be based on ‘Harry Potter’.……… ACTIVITY DAYS

Pathfinders (Not currently taking place)

Groups for school years R-6 where children are introduced to God, building knowledge, understanding and a relationship with him so that they can make a choice to walk God’s path and enter his kingdom.

Children @ St. Michael’s

At St Michael’s we have a range of groups for children up to Year 6. Children are welcome at Sunday services and to our Pathfinder Group midweek. (For details of groups for older children and teenagers, click here).

Children on Sundays
Children are very welcome at any time  – both visitors and regulars are valued and are important to us.
A selection of books, toys and cushions  are laid out at the back of the church so children of preschool age can play happily and there are resources for older children. Children’s leaders are on standby to run sessions and offer support to families with young children on most Sundays.
Pathfinders

What is Pathfinders?
A chance to introduce children who are in school years R-6, to God, building knowledge, understanding and a relationship with him so that they can make a choice to walk God’s path and enter into his Kingdom and Tea is also served .

When  and where do we meet?
Thursdays during term time – 5.05pm – 6.15pm (but not the first Thursday of each term) at  St Michael & All Angels’ Church in Lilleshall

What do we do?
We spend time in small groups exploring the Bible through different approaches such as drama, interactive readings and puppets. This is often followed with a craft activity. We join together in worship with modern music and we occasionally include dance, ribbons, flags and musical instruments

Who are the Leaders?
The Leaders are all committed Christians who worship regularly:

  • Leaders:  Helen Jones,  Alex Jones, Jane Austin and Chris Leyden
  • Assistant Leaders:  Scarlett Jones
  • Junior Leaders:  Todd Kynaston, Georgia Appleton, Amber Dickens and Brendan Appleton

(All Leaders and Helpers have a DBS Check (Criminal Record bureau) and follow the Lichfield Diocesan Child Protection Policy)

How much does it cost?
We ask for a weekly donation of £2.00 per session to include food which is used towards the cost of resources, materials and Birthday gifts for the children. We really appreciate your donations.

Anything else you need to know?

  • Pathfinders are encouraged to come along with their families to our child-friendly services and Messy Church
  • A Consent/Health & Safety form needs to be completed for each child at the beginning of each academic year
