St John’s and St Michael’s Churches Notices for Sunday 3rd October

St Michael’s Holy Communion @ 9.30am: Welcome to our service today led by Matthew.

St John’s Morning Worship (and Livestreamed) @ 11am: A very good morning to you all. A warm welcome to all that are joining us in church today and watching from home. Our service today is led by Matthew. Jan continues our sermon series ‘A new way of living’ talking to us about ‘Judgment & Criticism’ Matthew 7:1-6.

All leading, worship, preaching, readings and prayers will be live from church and Livestreamed over YouTube

Please note: St John’s is no longer on zoom but is livestreamed via YouTube. Our capacity within St John’s has increased to 60 still allowing for some social distancing, entering church via the side gate to the right of church. We still encourage you to wear face masks when moving around the building and singing but can be removed when sitting. We will continue to keep the building well ventilated so please dress appropriately. Thank you for your patience in helping to keep our church a safe place to be.

St John’s – Our first reading today is from Matthew 7:1-6

7 ‘Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way as you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3 ‘Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, “Let me take the speck out of your eye,” when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

6 ‘Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

St John’s – Our second reading is from Luke 18:9-14 (KJV)

9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
