St John’s and St Michael’s Churches – Notices for Sunday 22nd August
Good Morning Sunday zoom service @ 8.15am We continue with GMS online for the time being… with your own choice of breakfast (downside – you have to make it!) Please use the same link as the 11am service).
St Michael’s Morning Worship + Baptism @ 9.30am: Welcome to our service today led by Matthew. We would like to offer a very special welcome to Charlie, his family and friends, who is being baptised today. Matthew 5:38-48.
St John’s Holy Communion Service in Church & on Zoom @ 11am: A warm welcome to our service this morning led by Matthew. Matthew continues our series ‘A New Way of Living’, today looking at ”Dealing with difficult people’ Matthew 5:38-48. ‘Don’t forget your bread and wine’
St John’s: Our capacity within St John’s is now approx 45. Would be lovely to see more people in church. We have slightly reduced the distance between chairs but we are continuing to operate a one way system with hand sanitising on entry. We are recommending face masks to be worn, especially when moving around the building and singing. Our next review is planned for the end of August.
During August it would still be helpful to continue to book St John’s enabling Lesley to set up the appropriate number of chairs. No need to book for St Michael’s.
Below are the links to our online Sunday services, including readings and sermon for you to listen to at your leisure.
LIVESTREAMING SERVICES: Hopefully you should be aware that we Livestreamed last Sunday’s service, if you haven’t had chance to see it then it will remain available on the church’s YouTube channel, St John’s Muxton. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCB6N81vubkdzSYD7rCPFw5Q
Our aim is to Livestream all our services (rather than Zoom) once restrictions allow more of us to be back in the church building. Weather (and AV team availability) permitting, we also hope to have another outdoor service in the next few weeks. Thank you to all who have provided feedback, it is most welcome. We were battling with the elements and new technology on the day so some of the ‘issues’ were beyond our control as was the camera position. The AV has been such an important part of our worship over the last 18 months and it would be nice to bring some new people on board. If you feel you could assist or want to be part of the AV team then please get in touch with one of us. In the meantime, we are doing our best to make ‘church’ as normal as possible, so please bear with us………..the AV team.
CAP: Befrienders needed – the cap debt centre is in need of more befrienders to help Jane and Marcelle. If you think you could help please contact Jane Preston 07932189493 email@example.com asap.
COMMUNITY EVENT: It’s been a long time since we were able to have big events, and we wanted to do something to bring the community together. One thing we have all missed over lockdown has been the opportunity to enjoy live music. Therefore, as part of this community picnic on Saturday 4th September 11.30am-3pm we are holding an ‘open mic’. This is a chance for local musicians to come and perform and for the rest of us to enjoy their music. (See poster below for more information). Please share with your friends and family. You can pick up a leaflet (or two) from St John’s church and post through your neighbours/friends door…or you could even put up a poster in your window, also available from church.
RIDE+STRIDE is a sponsored bike ride or walk in which people all over England walk or cycle between churches, exploring and enjoying the countryside from Cornwall to Northumberland. The money they raise helps to save historic churches, chapels and meeting houses for future generations by helping to fund urgent repairs and the installation of modern facilities. 38 ‘You have heard that it was said, “Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.” 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
43 ‘You have heard that it was said, “Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.” 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
