Norman’s Story

I am now 78 years old, a Christian – a believer in Jesus Christ. I have been married to my wife for 53 years and have two sons, both great lads! My wife and I have lived in the same house in Muxton since 1964.

Simon our elder son has, without our encouragement or discouragement, always been a Christian from a very early age.

One day in the year  2000 Simon asked me if I would like to go along with him to a series of Men’s evenings up at the Shropshire Golf Club.

There must have been about 14 Men at the first evening, I had a bit of a shock! What a diverse bunch they were: engineers, a dentist, a farmer, an interesting lot and of course the Vicar. Over the next few weeks over a meal and a drink several of the men told of their faith in God. It was so interesting that these ordinary blokes had this faith while being so very diverse and ordinary it got me interested so I investigated more.

The next step for me was going to church on Sundays and eventually attending Alpha –  that was an eye opener! So much fun and discussion. I was a problem and posed lots of negative points for discussion. Nothing was out of bounds and you were able to say just what you wanted to, then the group would discuss it, some agreeing with my thoughts, others not so much.

On Sunday 8th of June 2003 up at Lilleshall Church I was confirmed in my belief in Jesus Christ.  I am still the same as always was but I have Christ in my life and am happy and try to do what Christ did – love others as he loves us.
