Visit to Israel – Holy Land: Have you always wanted to visit the holy land? Would you like to see some of the places we read about in the Bible? Then this may be for you … read on! You may recall that last year David Pierce, Sian Walker and Vicky Yates went to Israel with a friend of David’s, the Rev Dr Alan Munden and had an excellent time. It was so successful that Alan is planning to lead another group this year from 24 September to 1 October. Travel to Israel will be from Manchester to Tel Aviv. Cost will be in the region of £1800 (single room supplements about £300). Alan has led tours to Israel six times already and is familiar with many of the ‘must see’ sites. Visiting Israel brings together religion (three world faiths), history (over 10,000 years) and politics (going back to the founding of the state of Israel). The weather will be fine and sunny but a bit hotter in the Dead Sea area. There is some walking involved.  For more information ask Vicky, Sian and David and if any church members would be interested in going please contact David on 850231.

LILLESHALL PRE SCHOOL have the green tokens collection box at Asda until the end of March.  3 members of St Michael’s work at pre-school and it would be good to support them in trying to secure much needed funds for this Charity status pre-school.

2 Timothy 1:8-18

So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. He has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the      appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.

13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you – guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

Examples of disloyalty and loyalty

15 You know that everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me, including     Phygelus and Hermogenes.

16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. 17 On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me. 18 May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day! You know very well in how many ways he helped me in Ephesus.

Mark 8:34-38

The way of the cross

34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.’
