20th May 2018

Welcome to St John’s Church

Notices for Sunday 20th May – Pentecost

8.15am GOOD MORNING SUNDAY: On a busy Sunday, start the day with God and be fed and ready to go by 9:15! Breakfast from 8.15 am, the Sunday papers, conversation, prayer and reflection.

11am MORNING WORSHIP: Our service this morning is led by Jan. Jon talks to us about ‘I am the Gate for the Sheep’ John 10:1-10.

PRAYERS: It is with sadness we let you know that sadly Kit Shambley died  recently.  Her funeral is to take place on Thursday 31st May at Telford Crem 11.30am.  Please pray for her son, family and friends.

CONTACT DETAILS-IMPORTANT: Your privacy is important to us, and we want to continue to communicate with YOU which is in line with UK law on data  protection.  UK law is changing and we now need to confirm your consent to how we contact you. Please pick up a form available in church which will allow us to do this and return to Lesley when completed.  We do need a form for everyone we have any contact details for.  Thank you for your help in this matter.

CRECHE/LIGHT Following a few months where staffing on LIGHT (creche) reached critical levels, our prayers have been answered in part, which is fantastic news. At one stage, we only had 2 leaders. The LIGHT leaders team has now been boosted by the welcome addition of 2 new members , and we are grateful for these ladies for offering their services, which should cut the leading responsibility down to 1 every 5 weeks, allowing our leaders to participate more fully in the services. We are still desperately short of helpers in LIGHT and would ask for your continued prayers for this vital area of the church. At present, leaders are having to double as helpers, which isn’t ideal as we have no helpers. Helping in creche does not involve any planning in advance. You are a   support to the leader.  LIGHT would benefit from the addition of another 4 helpers, therefore would not be expected to be on duty for more than one a month. With the age range of the children (0-5) it is a legal requirement for there to be 2 adults in the room, so we are desperate to fill this gap in staffing. If you feel able to help, please let  any of the clergy team aware. Please can we ask you to pray that the required helpers will be found amongst the members of the congregation. Many Thanks

ACTIVITY DAYS 2018: Can you help with this years Activity Days ? held 24th to 27th July. You can appreciate there is a lot of organisation and it really helps to have your availability to ensure we have enough leaders/helpers even more so this year as we have a few of our regular leaders and helpers unavailable so your time, if you can give it, is even more vital. Please fill in a form available in church and hand to Lesley in the office.

John 10:1-10

The good shepherd and his sheep

10 ‘Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognise a stranger’s voice.’ Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.

Therefore Jesus said again, ‘Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
